Why is now really the best time to upgrade?
We’re not just blowing hot air and giving you the ‘used-car-salesman’ technique of saying that all 365 days of the year are a good time to upgrade whatever hot product needs updating!
Now, during the Spring-time, is really the best time to replace and upgrade your air conditioning unit. The temperatures are mild enough that living without AC for a bit during installation is not excruciating, but at the same time, there is enough ‘pressure’ to make a change because we all know the weather and high temps that are coming! And, upgrading your unit now will result in an immediate change in comfort and an assurance that your summer will be cool and comfortable!
Figuring out if you should replace or repair your air conditioning unit can be a difficult decision, a decision that most people put off until it’s too late and they are completely without a functioning system and in need of costly emergency service. At Air Source Cooling and Heating, we pride ourselves on giving all of our customers straight-forward and honest answers; sometimes replacing your air conditioning unit isn’t necessary, a simple repair will breathe new life into it and keep it running until it’s the right time to replace.
Of course, anything can be repaired, but just like putting money into an old car, at some point it becomes a wiser decision to invest in a new model. Unlike cars, which can hold sentimental value as they age, most homeowners aren’t emotionally attached to their HVAC units! So, feelings aside, decision making around your air conditioning unit should be a less emotional experience than decisions around your car or other major purchases that hold a special place in your heart.
An air conditioner has a typical lifespan of around 10-15 years (According to the National Association of Home Builders) so, if your air conditioner is misbehaving, and it falls within that time span, that can be the easiest indicator that a replacement is due. After the 10-15 year mark, your unit is more likely to need service more often, making a new unit a better financial investment in the long run. If you’ve noticed your energy bills gradually rising, that can be another indicator that it is time to replace your unit. The technology that was available 10-15 years ago is much different, and most likely outdated, than the environmentally-friendly technology of 2020.
